TEACHING STYLE:
SUPPORT. Each day our mind and body are different in how they connect & move. The goal of yoga is not to be perfect but to feel the benefits of yoga. In my yoga classes (chair & mixed level flow) I help my students practice with support to aid how they are doing in both mind and body that day in class. The support I use is with breath work and props (blankets, straps, blocks, pillows, &/or weights) to aid my students’ movements no matter their age, body constrictions (e.g. arthritis, amputation, joint issues, etc.), and learn to practice mindfulness. The use of props allows students to deepen their practice as they move from pose to pose and lessen the possibility of injury as they increase flexibility and strength. I offer support to my students with alternative ways to come into a pose that will work for their body. All levels of yogi from beginner to advanced will benefit from any of my classes in both mind and body connections. We all need to remember that yoga practice is a practice because every day is different on how we feel mentally and physically.
ABOUT ME:
I grew up in Iowa in a small town where I learned how important it is to care about and help others. I am a licensed dental hygienist and practiced for over 35 years as well as teaching dental hygiene at Johnson County Community College (JCCC) in Overland Park, Kansas for 30 years. I retired from JCCC and moved to Fremont to be closer to my family. My focus now is on teaching yoga. I began practicing yoga in 2008 to help me physically as I aged and mentally to decrease stress. It has been a great journey leading me to teach yoga and share its benefits with others. I completed my 200 hours training in December 2013 and became a Yoga Alliance registered yoga teacher in January 2014. I continued my yoga training/education to further aid myself and others in our world of static postures by earning my Chair Yoga & Senior Yoga Certification in November 2016 and then my Corporate Yoga Certification in June 2019 through Yoga Vista Academy. I continued my learning and training by completing the Veterans Yoga Projects’ Mindful Resilience Training in August 2019 to aid my work with veterans and other individuals in need of mindful resilience yoga. In February 2020 I completed my requirements to become an Experienced-Registered Yoga Teacher (E-RYT) and a Yoga Alliance Continuing Education Provider (YACEP) with Yoga Alliance. Yoga has taught me the importance of breath, alignment, & the mind/body connection for overall wellness, peace, and healthy aging. I enjoy working with my students (from teens to 90 year-olds) to make their yoga practice their own by helping to guide them on their path of wellness.
